MALLORY

www.mrgasket.com/mallorymain.html
What it is: HEI module with adjustable rev limiting from Mallory
Why you need it: it is a high-output module that will work in 4-, 6-, and 8-cylinder motors. The rev limiter is adjustable in 100-rpm increments between 4-8,500 rpm by DIP switches--no chips are required. Due to the high-energy output of the module, it is highly recommended that you use the matching coil, part No. 29215. Installation is simple, as it replaces the GM four-pin module. The Pontiac module is part No. 699.
Which applications: any Pontiac V-8 with HEI
Suggested price: $100

The inline pumps have #10 lines in and out and possess an integral 8-micron, stainless steel clean-able filter. They are said to run very quietly and pull low amperage compared to other high-performance street pumps.

Why you need it: to keep your law-breakin' behind out of the slammer. Three compounds will cover all driving styles--the Pro Touring is a ceramic pad, the Pro Track is a carbon-ceramic pad, and the Pro Race pad is a dual-carbon design. Baer wanted to create a linear pad with a high level of friction that would perform extremely well with low rotor wear. Part nos. 3031 for the front and 3032 for the rear will throw the anchor out on your '98-02 Firebird.
Which applications: most Pontiacs from '67-up

THE NITROUS WORKS
706-864-7009
www.gpt300.com/nitrousworks
What it is: nitrous spray plate from The Nitrous Works
Why you need it: because its directional plate uses a counter-sunk design in the spray bar that is focused down each intake runner, which acts similar to an actual nozzle. This effectively brings jet nozzle technology to a bar and allows an even distribution of nitrous and fuel into your engine. No part numbers are available yet, but it will be available in a standard square flange for any Demon or Holley carb and the large 4500-series flange for the King Demon and Holley Dominator.
Which applications: any Pontiacs using Demon or Holley carbs
Suggested price: N/A

TESLA ELECTRONICS
310-452-0030
www.gtechpro.com
What it is: G-Tech Performance Meter from Tesla Electronics
Why you need it: for quick and easy performance assessments after that new part is bolted up. The Pro Competition meter is a self-contained data acquisition system that utilizes a 3-axis accelerometer. It installs by simply suctioning to the windshield and plugging into the cigarette lighter socket. Now you can measure racing parameters like quarter-mile, eighth-mile, and 60-foot, as well as acceleration numbers, lateral G, power, torque, rpm, and more--and the accuracy is said to be 5/100 of a second.
Which applications: Pontiacs with windshields and lighter sockets
Suggested price: $250

The RPM Kit includes ovate wire valve springs, retainers, studs, guide plates, and rocker arms for a higher rpm range and increased durability. Ask your Comp Cams sales rep for an applicable part number.
Which applications: '98-02 LS1 Firebirds

MALLORY

www.mrgasket.com/mallorymain.html
What it is: a HyFire 7 BTR racing ignition system from Mallory
Why you need it: part No. 667BTR is an all-in-one package designed primarily for the serious racer looking for a high-output, high rpm ignition. This system comes with a hand-held digital LED display that controls three stages of rev limiting adjustment: start retard, a three-stage selectable retard, and boost proportional retard. It also features a remote digital display so the ignition can be mounted in a convenient place, and the display can be mounted near the driver's seat. The HyFire 7 BTR comes complete with a three-bar map sensor and will work on anything from an Iron Duke on up.
Which applications: any Pontiac with a distributor
Suggested price: $750

THE NITROUS WORKS
706-864-7009
www.gpt300.com/nitrousworks
What it is: multi-stage EFI nitrous kit from The Nitrous Works
Why you need it: to soften the hit of a shot of nitrous. This kit comes with three solenoids--each one is worth 25 horses on 4- and 6-cylinder Pontiacs and 50 horses on V-8s. It works by placing the bottom plate into your air inlet tube--the nozzles go into holes drilled into the air inlet and are locked in by a collar on the top. Said nozzles face toward the MAF and are armed by a throttle bracket-mounted micro switch. Three separate switches can be thrown at will by the driver, whenever he/she deems a new hit of the juice necessary. And you won't have to upgrade the stock fuel system, either.
Which applications: any Pontiac with an L98, LT1, or LS1, as well as the Sunfire/Grand Am/Grand Prix motors
Suggested price: N/A

STREET AND PERFORMANCE
479-394-5711

What it is: LS1 air cleaner from Street and Performance
Why you need it: it allows you to use the larger, 1-piece 2001-2003 MAF from the LS1 and LS6 with the built-in air temp sensor. The factory MAF fits into the front adapter of this air cleaner, which uses a high-flow SB filter. Plain, polished, or chrome is available and done in-house for these units. No part number is available yet, so ask for them by name.
Which applications: '98-00 LS1 Firebird
Suggested price: $210 for a polished filter when the customer provides an LS1 MAF

HURST
216-688-8300
www.mrgasket.com/hurstmain.html
What it is: Pistol-Grip shifter handle from Hurst
Why you need it: to look like a cool guy rowing that Third- and Fourth-Gen Firebird manual. This aluminum handle is CNC machined from solid billet aluminum and threaded for 16mm by 1.5-inch shifter sizes. Only one part number, 1536000, will get the job done.
Which applications: manual trans Third- and Fourth-Gen Firebirds
Suggested price: N/A

WEIAND
270-781-9741
www.holley.com/HiOctn/ProdLine/Weiand2.html
What it is: a high-flow LS1 intake manifold from Weiand
Why you need it: because it's a cool LS6-based aluminum manifold that was produced to handle a ton of power. This strength is good for those thinking about adding a fogger nitrous system or forced induction--anyone, anyone? Also, a plate on the bottom can be removed so you can access the runners for a little extra port work, if you like. Part No. 300-111 is satin, and adding a P to the end will get it polished for a few extra Benjamins.
Which applications: '98-up LS1 Firebirds
Suggested price: $798 for satin, $1208 for polished

MSD IGNITION
915-857-5200
www.msdignition.com
What it is: a Digital-7 ignition system with boost retard curve from MSD Ignition
Why you need it: part No. 7535 is designed to be used with a distributor and coil system, (not DIS, folks). This high-output ignition has 190 millijoules of spark energy and 535 volts of primary power at the coil. But the real draw of this unit is its ability to adjust rpm limits and stage retards, as well as timing on a cylinder-to-cylinder basis. It is controlled via laptop and can be used with a MAP sensor to control boost timing. You carb guys will now have the timing control that the EFI guys love, and it can be used with a distributor or a crank trigger.
Which applications: any Pontiac with a distributor
Suggested price: $821

BARRY GRANT
706-864-8544
www.barrygrant.com
What it is: Competition Speed Demon carbs from Barry Grant
Why you need it: part Nos. 1402010DR (750 cfm) and 1563020DR (850 cfm) are twin-squirter Demon carbs that allow even more fine tuning than the previous Speed Demons. They are designed for Super Stock or Competition classes where a replacement OEM-style carb with a chokehorn is required. The assembly consists of a Speed Demon 750-/850-cfm center section with the Race Demon's internals--five emulsion-hole billet metering blocks, replaceable boosters, drag racing floats and secondary extensions--all the good stuff that a Pontiac racer could want.
Which applications: Pontiacs racing in NHRA classes
Suggested price: $710
