2010 Model Year Meltdown
On April 27, 2009, GM announced it would phase out Pontiac by the end of 2010, but don't expect any '10 models to even be manufactured. According to GM, buildouts have occurred on all retail Pontiac models-the Vibe was the last model, and it ceased production in August, 2009-and whatever is left on dealer lots is it. Are you looking for the last of the great Pontiacs? A G8 GXP (see "Quarter-Milestone" in this issue) and the Solstice GXP coupe are sure-fire performers and destined to be instant classics.
Ban One Show Brings Out The T/As
The second annual BAN ONE Firebird and Trans Am show, held on May 2, 2009, in Atlanta, Georgia, was another great success. The show had 72 cars registered, and every model-year of the Firebird was represented. Firebird owners from nine states (Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Kentucky, Tennessee, Florida, Alabama, and Georgia) participated on the show field, located at Summit Racing's Superstore, 30 miles south of Atlanta. Twelve classes represented Stock, Modified, and Custom cars for each of the four Firebird generations. The show is expected to be even bigger next year.
Where else but in Atlanta, mythical home of Bo Darville (aka the Bandit), would show awards be full-size mounted replicas of the Bandit's famous BAN ONE license plate? See y'all next year!-John Kirkbride
