Just minutes after Kurt Kenobbie received his HPP Editor's Choice award (bottom left); Steve Barcak (right) presented him with the Best Engine trophy.
When the festivities wound down on Saturday night, Barcak, as has been tradition, threw a barbecue at the track. Everybody was welcome. It was yet another attraction that added a down-home family feel to this event as the day's participants swapped stories of races won and lost and other Pontiac tales over burgers, hot dogs, and drinks.
Musclecar Heaven Drags & More 3 took center stage at the Motorplex on Sunday. Since this is a multi-make event, we'll just provide the Pontiac-related highlights here. Best Pony Car honors went to Steve Kinnaman's '67 Firebird. On the racetrack, Pontiacs were more prevalent in the winner's circle than last year despite a larger turnout of other-make musclecars. Bracket 1 winner was Marc Bechtold and his '66 GTO, another HPP SoCal shootout participant. Seth Levy's '78 Trans Am took Bracket 2, and runner up was Bill Bauer and his '71 LeMans. Bracket 3 saw no Pontiacs in the top spots, but Les Iden and his '66 GTO runnered-up in Bracket 4. Another highlight of Sunday was the spectacle that is Steve Cooke's jet car, the War Wagon half-track, which made a blistering pass down the Motorplex 1,320.
As the sun set on these two events, there were plenty of people Barcak wanted to thank for their efforts like the staff and sponsors (see sidebar) who make it all happen. Staffers include Greg Gehle, Keith Collier, Chris Vogt, Amanda Marcus, George Krasnowski, Vandy Miller, Paul Miller, Mike Syzmanski, Nathan Seddon, Ron Coleman, and Shad Bowley, all of whom are probably already hard at work on the '06 events.
Speaking of which, the dates for 2006 are April 1 for Pontiac Heaven Drags & More VIII and April 2 for Musclecar Heaven Drags & More 4. Contact Steve Barcak at Steve@Pontiacheaven.org or visit pontiacheaven.org for further details.
