For Ray DeCrescenzo the only thing that's better than owning a Judge is owning a Ram Air IV Judge. Here is one of four Ram Air IV Judges in his collection (his latest project is a '70 Ram Air IV Judge convertible).

Though not heavy on options aside from the engine and drivetrain, this Judge does have full gauges, a hood tach, and an AM radio.

This is a concours gold engine compartment. According to DeCrescenzo, the only point deductions here were for the aftermarket battery, the temperature sending unit wiring, and the radiator decal. The judges say that the decal shouldn't be there, but Ray and others think that it should, so there is some debate over that issue.

A 400ci Ram Air IV was a terror on the streets and now draws big bucks in collector circles. This one has a Judge wrapped around it and it's been bored and stroked to 462 cubes, making it even meaner.

Rammy says that he likes to restore tie rods and sleeves and any other parts that aren't too worn, for authenticity. Many of the original suspension parts were retained except for the bushings, balljoints, and other wear items like the centerlink. Note the one-piece rotors. Early in the '70 model year, two-piece rotors were used. The stabilizer bar measures 1 1/8 inches in diameter for the '70s.

The M21 four-speed was completely rebuilt to better harness the torque of the modified engine. Also, Pete Serio rebuilt the Hurst shifter to ensure that Ray doesn't miss any 6,500-rpm upshifts due to a sloppy shifter.

You can see where Rammy applied body colored over spray to the black floorpan area (the pans appears silver or bare in the photo, but they are not). You can also see the rear suspension; '70 was the first year the GTO employed a rear stabilizer bar (7/8-inch diameter), which also required boxed lower rear control arms.
