In June 2013, High Performance Pontiac magazine set out to photograph the 2014 Judge for our December 2013 issue. What was intended as a quiet photo shoot turned into a live heads-up drag race—in one lane The Judge and in the other lane a 2007 Shelby GT500 Mustang.

“Even though the GTO was introduced several years ago as a prototype, we are ready to go into production on the car,” Trans Am Depot’s Tod Warmack tells us in an exclusive web story. “We've never heavily promoted the GTO to the public until now.”

Here’s how it all happened. When film director Ash von Chamier learned that High Performance Pontiac would photograph The Judge on a public street directly in front of the Florida Supreme Court Building in Tallahassee, Florida, he jumped on the chance to film the new The Judge commercial at the same time.

Before the production crew knew it, the Tallahassee Police Department blocked off three city blocks of downtown Tallahassee for The Judge. “With permission from the Tallahassee Police Department, we then drag raced—and I mean full-throttle racing— while the film was rolling. When you see the GTO screaming past the Shelby in front of the Florida Supreme Court, all of that is live action that hasn’t been speeded up,” Warmack says.

He continues: “Thanks to High Performance Pontiac’s Interim Editor Christopher Phillip, who was creative architect for the film shoot and photo shoot, the commercial has gone where no GTO commercial has gone before. One look at the commercial teaser [it’s embedded in this story and available on High Performance Pontiac’s YouTube Channel www.youtube.com/user/HighPerfPontiac), which is well on its way to viral, you’ll want to share the link with all of your friends—and we mean all of your friends—and watch over, and over, and over.”

High Performance Pontiac readers will see the result of Driveline Studios’ Justin Cesler’s stunning photos of The Judge on the magazine’s December 2013 issue, which goes on sale September 10, 2013.
