1976 Pontiac Trans Am Aims To Be The Fastest Street Car At The Pump Gas Drag Race

A Preview Of Upgrades For The 2006 Pump Gas Drags
For the upcoming Pump Gas Drags, the engine will be running some new top-end components. A Hogan sheetmetal intake will replace the Victor, and a set of AllPontiac.com Tiger heads will replace the wide-port E-heads. Under the valve covers, 1.65:1 ratio rockers will be swapped in for the 1.60s.

"The struggle with the engine has been getting more air into it," said Robin. "We want to improve flow with the Tiger heads and the chamber design is improved, which should help on pump gas. The Hogan intake will fit these heads much more easily than our current Victor and will flow better. We're looking to pickup 60 cfm on the intake side and have a 66 percent exhaust to intake flow, which is a significant improvement on the exhaust side over the E-heads."

Lastly, a set of 4.00-inch collectors has been added to the headers, and the cage will be upgraded as required for the e.t. that Robin is shooting for--very low 8s on pump gas.

Weld Aluma Star wheels measure 15x3.5 inches up front and are shod with M/T 26x4.5x15 tires that run at 40 psi on the strip. Stopping is left to Wilwood disc brakes using 11 3/4-inch fully-vented rotors at the four corners.
1976 Pontiac Trans Am Auto Meter Gauges
Auto Meter gauges and tach with shift light and memory replaced the factory dials to provide needed accuracy. The switches to control the nitrous purge (unmarked), electric fuel pump, one electric cooling fan, and each nitrous system are mounted where the radio used to be.
1976 Pontiac Trans Am Rci Fiberglass Seats
The rollcage is a 10-point CE unit, fiberglass racing buckets are from RCI, and the harnesses are Crow. That pair of 10-pound blue bottles peaking from between the seats has NX Fire & Ice pressure controller that warms and cools them as needed to maintain a preset bottle pressure.

These chrome-moly upper control arms from Global West reduce weight, add strength, and modify the geometry of the front suspension. The front stabilizer bar has been removed, and though the spindles are stock, they were lightened by grinding off the casting flash and anything else deemed unnecessary.
