ConclusionThe hot temperature prevented anyone from running a personal best, but that didn't stop them from gaining valuable tuning experience and having a great time in the process.
Mick and Mark Batson showed that the father-son teams are a great way to spend quality time together. Mark learned everything he could from his dad and employed it in his '68 Firebird, which helped him become a talented racer. He's even put dad and his '65 2+2 on the trailer several times. Mick helped instill his love of racing in his son and it's an activity that they can share for many years.
Keith Edelen demonstrated that having a combination that is a bit out of the mainstream of tradition can still yield a very viable racecar. His front-drive '01 GTP, with proper augmentation, has become a very impressive performer with the utility of a daily driver.
Brian Rock and his '65 GTO have a tremendous history together and his current combination gives him exactly what he wants-an extremely quick street/strip car that is at home in both settings. The use of a power adder on top of a well-thought out combination gets him the results he desires.
Our racers were a pretty diverse group, both in terms of their cars and their age range. Yet, they all share a common love of Pontiacs and of drag racing-a very compatible pairing!
We extend a special thanks to the POCI Drag Race Committee, Dave Anderson and Pontiac Drag Days for their help putting together this shootout.
