If you had the good fortune to buy a Hurst SSJ in the early '70s, you may (we don't know if the option was offered in 1970 or 1972) have been offered the opportunity to purchase an optional Sony 9-inch portable black-and-white television to complement your luxury ride. The antenna attached to the roof rail as shown in the photo and the TV was placed inside the car.
As you may imagine, this option is very rare. It was offered for a suggested list price of $340 (dealer net $295) on the '71 SSJ Hurst Confidential Order Form. Remember, this was in Nixon-era dollars--air conditioning cost $442.34 in the same Pontiac.
Seldom seen today, the unit we photographed at the Ames Performance Pontiac Nationals this past August was in the '71 SSJ of John Laing.
