Only 2,116 Trans Ams were produced in '71: 885 with manual trans and 1,231, like this example, with a Turbo 400 automatic trans. All came with the 455 H.O. powerplant. Two exterior colors were available: Cameo White (code 11) or Lucerne Blue (code 26).

Early production examples of the '71 T/A featured 15x7 Rally II wheels (code JW) carried over from the '70 model year wrapped in F60x15 rubber. This T/A's original Rally IIs are stamped with code KN despite that fact that the buildsheet says JW.

Standard features included Posi-traction (code G80), power brakes (code J50), Formula steering wheel (code NK3), dual exhaust (code N10), power steering (code N41), Rally II wheels (code N98), Rally gauges with tachometer and electric clock (code U30), rear decklid spoiler (code D80), concealed wipers (code C24) and decor tape (code D92).
