The Pontiac 389s were increased to 414 ci (two to possibly 440 ci), and fuel injection was added among other upgrades for the first record attempt; GMC 6-71 superchargers were mounted for the second attempt. Mickey's biggest challenge would be making four simultaneous gearshifts while trying to keep the car on course. The clutch and shift linkages were quite complicated, with four clutches operated by a single foot pedal. View Related Article
