Firehawk Fanfare

Time sure flies when you bear an iconic moniker like the Pontiac Firebird. It's hard to believe more than a decade has passed since the last Birds soared off the assembly line and twice as long since Street Legal Performance (SLP) first introduced the Firehawk.

Firehawk: Fiercest of the Firebirds is a complete and detailed history of the origins and 10-year production run of GM's Tier-1 program, which brought the SLP Firehawk to Pontiac dealerships across North America. Author Mac Logan has been a Firehawk fanatic since he ordered one new back in 1994. His 220-page book is the culmination of a decade of gathering facts and figures on the special cars he owns and loves. The tome is chock full of history, performance-stats, production numbers, options, and more, with plenty of reference from those at SLP and GM who made these collector cars a reality. What's more, the beautiful imagery depicting an array of Firehawk models and colors will make any Firebird fan drool.

If you appreciate modern muscle and want to see some of the rarest birds in Pontiac's flock, this is the book for you. With only 1,000 copies being printed, act fast before they fly away.

Firehawk: Fiercest of the Firebirds costs $50 plus tax and shipping and can be ordered at www.firehawkbook.com.

1966 GTO Wins Inaugural Champion "King of the Road" contest

Congratulations to Roger Walker of Jacksonville, Arkansas, who is $5,500 richer thanks to his love of Pontiacs and Federal-Mogul's iconic Champion brand of spark plugs, wipers, and chemical additives.

Walker was one of 10 weekly Champion's "King of the Road" winners who faced off in the final round of consumer voting online. More than 63,000 votes were registered during the 10-week contest, and the GTO garnered 23 percent of the total votes cast in the finals.

Walker's GTO was restored in 2010 after being parked for nearly 35 years. His father purchased the car in 1968 and raced it for seven years before moving on to other interests. The ride features a Pontiac 400 with 6X cylinder heads, a Muncie four-speed transmission, Posi-Traction, and 3.55 gears.

"‘King of the Road' has helped thousands of automotive enthusiasts join the Champion brand in celebrating our shared passion for world-class technology and performance," said Federal-Mogul Digital Marketing Manager Jessica Wynn. "Roger's GTO and the great stories behind it really stood out for our voters, but there were hundreds of entries that received support from consumers worldwide."
