The Right Camber Up Front And Bind-Free Rear SuspensionBy today's standards, there's room for improvement on the front end of the '64-'72 A-bodies. Detroit Speed has released a kit to correct the shortcomings of the factory parts, particularly the spindles. It offers additional positive caster and improved camber curve, which translates into increased handling performance. The kit includes a splined swaybar and tubular upper and lower control arms designed around a unique spindle that allows the use of factory disc brakes. The price ranges from $2,600 to $3,200.
You also can update the performance of your '64-'72 A-body with a Detroit Speed Swivel-Link kit. These new rear trailing links eliminate binding and allow the suspension to fully articulate without the use of noisy spherical rod ends, and their rear trailing-arm links allow for easy pinion-angle adjustments for improved traction and lower driveline vibrations, according to the manufacturer. The kit also includes a tubular chassis brace to improve the structural rigidity of your vehicle. These parts will make a great addition for anyone looking to increase the handling of his or her GTO, LeMans, or Tempest.
The price range is $800-$975. Detroit Speed & Engineering, 185 McKenzie Rd., Mooresville, NC 28115; (704) 662-3272; www.detroitspeed.com.
Forced-Induction Throttle Body
Anyone who has built a high-boost application knows the annoyance of blowing off the intake tube. Even some of the strongest traditional clamps won't suffice when air is being forced into the intake tract. Wilson Manifolds now provides a simple new solution with its flanged throttle bodies for forced-induction EFI applications.
According to the company, the flanged mouth at the end of the throttle body is counter-bored to accept an aluminum mating ring. Secured by a V-clamp (sold separately), the other end of the mating ring is counter-bored to accept a 4-inch O.D. tube that can be welded to the mating ring. The result is a smooth and secure clamping system for the throttle body that greatly reduces the possibility of blowing off the intake tube again. For LS-series engines, 78, 90, 92 and 95mm versions are available. Contact Wilson for its full EFI throttle-body application guide. The price is $495.
