In this concluding chapter of Pavement Pounders Shootout’s Norwalk Edition, High Performance Pontiac brings you back to our private invitational drag race at Summit Motorsports Park. We have two racers from the event who both drive Pontiacs from the same model year, but take entirely different approaches in their builds. The first, according to its owner, is a street-legal, 8-second scorcher that started with a $1 buy-in; the second is a 10-second-capable bracket racer that changed hands from father to son. Let’s meet the racers.

For the past four months, High Performance Pontiac has delivered dynamic drag race pair-ups from our Pavement Pounders Shootout private-invitational at Norwalk, Ohio. The first built a Judge-tribute GTO racecar so he could retire his real Judge from active duty, and the second recently bought a popular late-’60s convertible so he could teach himself the science of drag racing.

We continue the series this month with two racers who want to learn how their new parts affect e.t.’s. The first is a classic Pontiac musclecar that’s been transformed into a striponly, 10-second bracket racer. Thee second is a former sporty street coupe that’s now flying high with e.t.’s in the 9s.

For the past two months, High Performance Pontiac has brought you to the edge of your seat with drag race action from our Pavement Pounders Shootout private-invitational, held at Norwalk, Ohio. We continue the series this month with two more racers who were determined to deliver their best e.t.’s ever. The first built a ’50s-era, gasser-style coupe with Pure Pontiac heritage, and the second wants to bring his already-modified Bird to a new plateau with nitrous.

If you recall from last month’s issue, High Performance Pontiac brought its Pavement Pounders Shootout to Norwalk, Ohio, in August 2011 for an action-packed day of drag racing at Summit Motorsports Park. This month, we spotlight two more hobbyist racers who came to the event to beat their previous best e.t’s. The first is a classic musclecar that ran 16.10s when his owner bought it, and he has significantly improved its e.t.’s since then; the second is an iconic example of one of Pontiac’s late-model, heavy-hitting Birds that left the roost to get itself juiced.

Thismonth High Performance Pontiac returns to Norwalk, Ohio, for another strip-scorching edition of Pavement Pounders Shootout. As in the past, we selected racers from various parts of the country (and Canada) to converge upon Summit Motorsports Park the day before the Ames Performance Tri-Power Pontiac Nationals to use our exclusive track event to try out new tunings, timings, and speed parts; experiment with launch techniques and shift points; and lay down baselines, and then try to best them with their most blistering-fast quarter-mile times ever.

If you recall from last month, HPP travelled to the world- famous NHRA Gainesville Raceway in Gainesville, Florida, for the first Pavement Pounders Shootout Florida Edition of 2011. This month we’re back at the home of the Gatornationals for another exciting round of Pontiac-only drag-racing action.

If you’re a frequent reader of HPP, you know that our Pavement Pounders Shootouts are usually held prior to, or in conjunction with, national Pontiac events like the Ames Performance Tri-Power Pontiac Nationals held every August in Norwalk, Ohio, and Pontiac Heaven held every April in Wittman, Arizona.

Speedworld Dragstrip in Wittmann, Arizona, was the place to be for Pontiac fans this past April as the latest edition of Steve Barcak’s Pontiac Heaven show and drag race was held there. As part of the festivities, HPP presented a Pavement Pounders Shootout. You saw a stout pair of performers in the last issue, and this installment will be just as hot and smoky.

Each year, Steve Barcak invites HPP to run a Pavement Pounders Shootout during his Pontiac Heaven show and drag race at Speedworld Dragstrip in Wittmann, Arizona, and each year we take him up on his gracious offer. For 2011, we’ll present some great Pontiacs over the next few issues of HPP. For our first go-round, let’s meet the racers and their machines.

Their mission: attend our Pavement Pounders Shootout, get the opportunity to see their cars in HPP magazine, test and tune their combos, have fun on the quarter-mile track, work on launch techniques and shift-point strategies, and acclimate their cars to the Summit Motorsports track in a relaxed environment-in contrast to the fiercely competitive Pontiac Nationals race program, which follows our event.

Once every August, High Performance Pontiac invites select drag racers from across the United States to arrive in Norwalk, Ohio, the day before the start of the Ames Performance Tri-Power Pontiac Nationals and attend our private-invitation Pavement Pounders Shootout. The event gives our chosen racers the opportunity to get out on the Summit Motorsports Park quarter-mile track and test their engines and combos, tuning and timing, launch techniques, shift strategies, and track behavior in a fun and relaxed environment, which is free from the stresses of the highly competitive Pontiac Nationals race program that follows our event.

This month, we conclude our Pavement Pounders Shootout VMP Edition, which took place at Virginia Motorsports Park (VMP) in Petersburg, Virginia, the day before the first Performance Years Pontiac Nationals.

This month, HPP's Pavement Pounders Shootout travels to Wittmann, Arizona, a normally quiet community outside of Phoenix that comes alive once a year with the sound of fast-running Pontiacs at the annual Pontiac Heaven, held at Speedworld Dragstrip.
