It was about Paul Carver building a 1969 Pontiac 428 to go into his 72 Formula. I now own that 428 and would love to get into contact with Paul Carver if anyone knows how to do it. Originally they were not working at all. I got all of the wiring hooked up again. There are two wires, one black and one red, coming from the passenger side of the car. This is my first time wiring anything period. I finally got the headlights to go up and down but they are going down when I turn the lights on and up when I turn the lights off. The driver side headlight doesn't function unless hooked up to the red and black wires from the passenger side. I'm not sure if I have the wiring backwards or what is going on. Please give me some input if you have any. It had a strange knock coming from everywhere and nowhere all at the same time. So I have decided to rebuild the engine. I plan on using this car as a daily driver that has some testicles. Since the car came stock with 10.2-10.5 CR with Iron heads. I plan on picking up a set of SD Performance KRE D-port heads(87cc) to drop the CR to a level consistent with normal pump gas. Here is where the question comes in. I plan on leaving the bottom end stock since it has ~49K miles total on the motor and I'm not shooting for more then stock Hp(370-400Hp). Is leaving the bottom end going to screw me? The reason I'm buying the heads is because I know in the next ~5 years I'll get bored and want to build a monster. I'd hate to buy some crap heads now to get by and then have to re-buy later for the next build. I have a 8 bolt on it now, not sure but the donut from the plate to the timing cover never stay's in place and my back plate is getting old, I had to closeup the gap between the back plate and water pump impeller, it was more than a 1/4". I need to replace the rear axle bearing and I opened the rear cover. It has a "S" spring holding the gears. Can someone tell for sure that this is a non-C-clip axle? The plastic front seat backs, and rear seat arm-rests are faded and the plastic is dried out. You can sand away the plastic with a finger-nail. The top outboard edges of the seat backs are damaged from the sun and then the seat-belt retracts and nicks the soft surface. I'm aware I can paint the plastic, but how can I restore & stabilize the surface beforehand? The nut is positioned so as to place the bolt that you're going to tighten through it at the edge of the header flange. Make one for each corner. Simply use thick enough material to hold the bolt. Pretty much. Be sure you're going in the correct direction, too. Line up the spikes on the pick-up coil to make it exact. A diagram for HEI will show #1 on a different place than with points. Fact is that doesn't matter, you control where #1 is on the cap. I like starting just ahead of the tach/bat connector. Are you getting spark? Those inexpensive distributors can have some crummy electronics so it might not hurt to test the unit and double check the assembly work and parts. In my understanding, its simply an aluminum version of an iron Pontiac intake from back then. The one I had didn't fit worth a damn but something may have been decked on that engine. Flow is comparable to at plain Performer because it is also based on a stocker. The P4B means Pontiac 4 barrel. Theres one or two high dollar parts that make those strong but I bet it don't have 'em. If it comes with the 2,800 stall and thats not what fits your combo, you'll want to change that. And, if the stall was more than you need, chances are the valve body mods / shift kit are more radical than you'll want. But they don't I have a 16 electric fan pushing air through the radiator, as well as a stock declutching fan. I have tried two core aluminum, 3 core aluminum, and now have a non-aluminum 65 truck 3 core radiator, which is 2 inches higher than the aluminums I tried. I can't seem to be able to find a 4 core radiator that will actually FIT my car unless I spend 500-1000, and so I need alternatives. The engine is not super high compression, so I wonder why this is happening. I can't fit anything larger than 25 1/2 wide in the car without cutting the support. I read all the overheating TA 400 problems which surprised me because they can fit a wider radiator. I'm thinking about blocking the front bypass as suggested and buying one of those improved waterpumps with the plate much closer to the impeller, so the water is forced through, and not cavitating in the pump. What do you think? Any suggestions?
