Pavement Pounders Shootout: Lone Star Edition

OWNER: DAVE STUNTZ

Owner Bio
"That was my goal to beat a slightly modified LS1 at the track," said Dave of his '01 GTP. And so he did, marking his favorite moment behind the wheel of his GP. Why a front-drive Pontiac? Dave explains, "I liked the GTP because it's an awesome compromise car. It can be built to run 12s with a full interior and still be able to take my daughter to school." This 27-year-old high school teacher has actually raced some of his students at the track, which as Stuntz says, "has led to some interesting conversations on Monday morning."

OWNER: SCOTT TEMPLET

Owner Bio
Scott Templet, a Millright foreman by trade is new to the racing game with one year under his belt thus far, but he is no stranger to Pontiacs (having owned a '77 GP street car that racked up 265,000 miles before he sold it). Pontiacs are in his blood. The 36-year old explains, "My father and brother build and racecars, and my father and I have always liked Pontiacs." Despite his just starting out, Scott already won Runner Up in the Second Chance Class at the Pontiac Southern Nationals last year. With support of his brother Chad (who drove the car at the shootout and who is pictured on this page) and father Martin, who competed in last year's Lone Star shootout with his '68 Bird (HPP Feb. '04), we're sure that there will be more racing success for Scott in the future.
