Run Notes: 1) Engine fell off at top end, bad launch; 2) Engine fell off at top end, slow shift; 3) Added gas, still not pulling on the top end, poor 2-3 shift; 4) Pulling better at top end, hooked better off the line; 5) Felt like best run of the day, still not pulling as hard as it should at the top end. Owner Bio: Doug Mesman Doug,... Owner Bio: Doug Mesman Doug, a 54-year-old lawyer, certainly has a few emotional attachments to this '67 GTO. First, it's "identical to the car I inherited, while I was in high school, from my older brother who passed away in 1968 at age 19," Doug told HPP. Second, this GTO was built on his birthday. He purchased it in 1999 and it retains its original sheetmetal and interior. Doug's been racing for 9 years and he says one of his favorite moments was, "My first pass down the track at the Pure Stock races." He enjoys the fact that "my GTO brings back memories of my brother and high school whenever I drive it." It also didn't hurt that the GTO made quite an impression on Doug's son the first time he saw it. Being a prosecutor for 28 years does have its strange moments. Doug said, "My job includes prosecuting street racers [as well as other crimes], which always makes me feel awkward." | Strip Specs | | Year/Model | ’67 GTO 400 H.O. | | Race Weight with Driver | 3,745 lbs | | Curb Weight | 3,585 lbs | | Fuel Level When Last Weighed | ¼-tank | | Fuel | 110-octane race fuel mixed with 93-octane pump gas | | Engine | ’67 400 H.O., WS code | | Cubic Inches Before/After | 400/406 | | Engine Built By | Dan Jensen |
