As the spark timing is advanced from TDC, the cylinder pressure rises sooner in the crankshaft's arc of rotation. The scale to the right of zero is ATDC. Note how traces 5 and 6 have the cylinder pressure peaking way before TDC. This is what kills power and bends connecting rods. View Related Article
