Thoughtful threaded freeze plug holes allow for reusable plugs to quickly drain coolant with the engine in the car (if the petcock on the side of the block isn't quick enough for you). Their presence eliminates the cost of a machine shop installation, prevents seepage or leaks, and can increase strength by "squeezing" the threaded plug in the hole. View Related Article
