Tap Out 5. Do Tap the cylinder-head bolt holes to ensure clean threads and proper torque figures. But it is just as important to use a bottoming tap (1⁄2-13) and tap all the way to the bottom of the holes, especially if the block has been decked. If you don’t, the head bolt may bottom out in the hole before it provides the proper clamping force on the head.
