17. To adjust the positive stops, we placed the transmission into Second gear and threaded the stop screw inward until it made contact with the gear-selector shaft. We then backed it off one full turn, and locked it down using a 7⁄32-inch hex-head wrench and an 11⁄16-inch open-end wrench. We repeated the same process for the rear stop using Fourth gear. Once we had them set, we engaged all the gears to be sure it didn’t interfere with the transmission in any one of them.
