Determining the original finish found on a Firebird’s front sway bar can draw many conclusions. It appears that areas of the suspension within normal view on this particular ’77 Trans Am were fogged black. This likely occurred at the dealership, where a can of black spray paint was used to improve visual consistency between areas covered by the undercoat and those covered in flash rust—and that includes the front sway bar. It clearly has traces of a very light application of flat-to-semigloss black. Areas not normally visible were not subjected to the black fogging. The part number on the identification tag reveals that the bar measures 1.25 inches in diameter. Note that the swaybar bracket is correctly retained to the frame using hex-head cap screws.
