[7a] The rubber boot is secured to the joint housing by a thick wire clip and machined slots. Complete disassembly began by using a thick flat-blade screwdriver to remove the large, wire retaining ring that secures the rubber boot in the housing. Simply pressing inward into the slot forced the ring toward the center of the shaft. There’s another slot on the opposite side. Once it was free, the retaining ring easily slid off the shaft.
