With the cross pin removed, the new rubber boot was slid into place onto the shaft. The fresh rubber can be a bit difficult to work onto the clean shaft surface. A small squirt of silicone spray can make the process much easier. Once the rubber boot was installed, Mazzei then pressed the pin into the shaft ensuring that it was centered with exactly 0.430 inch protruding from each side. A light coating of blue thread-lock compound was used to lubricate the pin during reinstallation and to be absolutely sure it doesn’t walk around during use.
