With the intermediate shaft fully assembled, the next step was properly reinstalling it into the Firebird. The joint housing and steering-column stub are splined, and a slot machined into each properly locates the pair. A little grease on each made installation easy. The retaining bolt was slid into the clamp once the slots were aligned. (Don’t be alarmed if it takes a few attempts.) Otherwise the steering wheel may be off slightly when the wheels are pointing straight ahead. With the bolt in place, its nut was tightened to 50 ft-lb.
