Even with its unitized-body design, the Firebird’s sturdy A-pillar is not overly large. That didn’t keep Pontiac designers from fitting a gold pinstripe onto its leading and trailing edges. Note the gold striping extends onto the Hurst Hatches, where it is appropriately sectioned on the trim but isn’t perfectly aligned. While it may seem as if we’re being critical of the stripe alignment, it’s actually considered quite satisfactory, especially when realizing that the assembly line was moving at a record pace, and the gold stripes were quite long and undoubtedly difficult to work with. Gold pinstripe can also be found on the door and side mirror on S/E models.
