We reused the Trans Am’s original points distributor, which has been carefully recurved to provide 22 degrees of centrifugal advance. The only necessary modification was the installation of a composite drive gear from BOP Engineering to complement the roller camshaft. We attempted several different levels of total timing while on the dyno. In its previous configuration, the 455 H.O. made peak power at 36 degrees. The fact that it required 34 degrees to achieve peak power after the rebuild proved it’s operating more efficiently.
