Since 1962, Armor All has protected and beautified vehicles with its interior, exterior, and tire-dressing products. New for 2013 is its Custom Shield line of spray-on striping and protective rubber coatings for use on your Pontiac’s exterior paint surface.
“No matter how hard you try to keep your Pontiac clean, life’s accidents can get in the way,” says Brian Ostrer, Armor All brand director. “That’s where Custom Shield comes in. It’s the perfect way to protect your car’s beauty from dirt and grime, while at the same time not harming the paint.”
Applied properly, Custom Shield will bond and form a rubber-decal-like covering over classic or late-model Pontiacs’ painted surfaces such as fenders, grilles, or trim, or just about any area you wish to protect from scratches, road grime, bugs, burnt rubber, and more. Here are some examples from Armor All:
Custom Shield is a modern, high-tech alternative to a cumbersome car bra. Spray it onto your front fascia and create a seamless, aero, form-fitting, and impervious protective barrier.
For the paint surrounding the keyholes on your doors and trunk, Custom Shield can create an invisible barrier that absorbs scratches so your paint doesn’t have to.
Custom Shield can be your first line of defense against brake-dust buildup on your wheels, and you can remove it in seconds without scrubbing or fighting.
We’ve come up with another novel use for Custom Shield: paint protection for the Pontiac drag racer.
Custom Shield can also be used to create semi-permanent special effects on your Pontiac, such as stripes, stenciled lettering or decals, or custom visuals of your choice that will peel off without any residue or evidence that they were ever there. (Super expensive and permanent custom paint work won’t do that!)
If you’re like many weekend warriors, you go to your local track seeking a day of fun and time trials with your Pontiac. For years, applying wax to the lower rear quarters or rear fascia behind the rear wheels to protect against kicked up debris and the splattering of burnt rubber has been a common practice. But after a day of racing in the heat of track conditions, removing the wax can prove to be more of a task than it’s worth. We wanted to see how much easier it would be to apply Custom Shield before the day’s burnouts, and then simply peel it off before the trip home and to dinner the same evening.
We found Custom Shield’s four-step application process was easy to understand and simple to do, providing you take your time and plan out where you want coverage to be before you start spraying. Tips and videos of the process are available at www.armorall.com. The use of a mask is recommended in all but the best ventilated situations, and having a soft microfiber towel available for any overspray clean up is suggested.
On average, one can of Custom Shield will disburse approximately 6-12 square feet of spray-on barrier. That’s enough to cover a front fascia, all four wheels, and/or custom striping, depending on the size of your Pontiac.
