A New Intake From Bop EngineeringAfter an extensive development program, a new BOP Engineering intake is now available. It's a single, four-barrel, cast-aluminum manifold designed for max-effort applications. The new casting will be capable of fitting factory heads, Edelbrock heads (including wide ports), all Wenzler heads, including the Super Chief (with or without the Super Chief's cast in spacer), all KRE heads (including the new tall port), and the new All-Pontiac/DCI head (without the need for a spacer). The BOP intake has a Holley Dominator bolt pattern with a 1-inch spacer built in to provide flexibility to those who want it, and help with any rule issues regarding the use of spacers. Bosses for EFI and/or nitrous applications are also cast into the runners.NSCA Champ Bruce Maichle and BES tested the BOP intake on a 515 IAII with Super Chief heads (see June '05 HPP for details on the engine). They report the engine made 1,015 hp baselined with a competitor's heavily ported single-plane manifold. With the port-matched BOP intake, they picked up an average of 30 hp and 20 lb-ft of torque over the other single-plane on a back-to-back test with no other changes. Even with these numbers, the horsepower peak moved up only 100 rpm. From 7,700 to 8,400 rpm, the engine used to fall off fairly quickly, but with the BOP intake, it reportedly held steady, making 40 more horsepower at 8,400 rpm. They were also able to take 2 degrees of timing out of the engine and keep the big numbers. The BOP manifold retails for $599.99.BOP Engineering, Dept.
