Photo by Jon Kaase The cam... Photo by Jon Kaase The cam is a 55mm billet solid roller from Comp Cams. It features 261/268 degrees duration at 0.050 and a whopping 0.828/0.828 lift when used with the Crane 1.8:1 rockers. Lobe-separation angle is 107 degrees and is installed at 104 degrees. The cam on the left is a Chevy stick, but it's the same size as a stock Pontiac piece and is shown here for comparison. |
With the Stef's oil pan removed,... With the Stef's oil pan removed, you can see the Melling oil pump and the rest of the bottom end, including the thick pan rail of the IAII block--it's actually solid up to the bend for the cylinder banks. The bottom of the cylinders are notched to allow up to a 4.75-inch stroke without grinding. Note the crank scraper that Kaase made. |
This earlier version of the... This earlier version of the IAII block does not have its splayed main caps indexed into the block like the version that's currently available. Despite using just the dowels for positioning the main caps, there were no instances of cap walk. Notice the beefy main webs, too. |
The aluminum crank scraper... The aluminum crank scraper that JKRE made uses 0.060 inch clearance between it and the crank. Scraping the excess oil off the crank while it rotates reduces reciprocating weight and saves a few horsepower. |
The custom CP piston is forged... The custom CP piston is forged from 2618 aluminum and features a deep-dish (45 cc) that mirrors the chamber shape to get more quench area and lowers compression to run pump gas. The 0.927x2.950-inch tool steel floating pins are from Precision Products and feature Casidiam coating from Anatech LTD to reduce wear. |
