The BMR stub on the right is made of 300M billet, the strongest axle material available; they are then zinc-coated for a durable finish. These axle stubs will likely outlive the rest of the Pontiac. |  Remove the halfshafts from...  Remove the halfshafts from the Pontiac. |  To install the new BMR axle...  To install the new BMR axle stubs, transfer the spring clip from the stock axle stubs to the BMR units. Pry them off the old ones with a screwdriver, then gently push them on the new ones by hand. Use a small screwdriver to help if necessary. |  Align the axle-stub splines...  Align the axle-stub splines with the carrier, and gently tap them in. (We used a hammer and a flat block of wood. This worked, but the factory service manual recommends a plastic mallet.) |  With the axle-stub install...  With the axle-stub install complete, remove the rear cover so the differential can finish draining. |  While the center section is...  While the center section is still dripping its last bit of fluid into a catch can, install the new BMR halfshafts. Swap the end caps from your OEM units to the new BMR shafts by tapping off each end cap (a punch works wonders here) and gently pressing them on the new BMR shafts. If you intend to keep them for future use, put the included BMR caps on your old OEM halfshafts to keep out dust and dirt. |
