1989 Pontiac Firebird - Tech Q&A

With the car almost 20 years old now, it's not a bad idea to change the fuel pump anyway as a preventative measure. The part is considered a consumable. Just be aware that getting the gas tank down in Third-Gen cars isn't a picnic. But an unreliable car can be worse than no car.

Grand am headers ... Anyone?I have an '01 Pontiac Grand Am GT four-door with a 3.4L V-6. I was reading your magazine and am wondering about the exhaust headers from The Other Guys Performance Products. Could you give me any information about the company as well as contact info?

Also, what other performance products do you know of for my Grand Am? I already have a chip and intake on it. I was wondering about a throttle body, or maybe a throttle-body spacer, a supercharger, and of course the headers would be nice. Any help you can give is greatly appreciated.Jarod CarterVia internet

Chris White responds:Oddly enough, The Other Guys Performance Products has gone out of business or become otherwise unavailable. I've tried to track them down, but to no avail, so at this point, it looks like the 3.4L N-body headers are no longer available.

You can purchase a throttle body for the LA1 from PartsForYourCar.com (www.pfyc.com) as well as one of the very few supercharger kits available for your Pontiac. You may also want to look into a custom turbo kit fabricated for your Pontiac as there are a handful of turbo Grand Ams running around turning very impressive times. Good luck with whichever road you take!

Hot-Rodding The G6I know it may not be the typical car that gets tuned, but after seeing many small souped-up imports, I was wondering if you know of any manufacturers that make performance parts for the G6 ('05 with a 3.5 engine).Dan SuppokVia Internet

Chris White responds:Dan, there are actually quite a few performance parts available for your G6, such as cold-air intake systems, after-cat exhausts, and even high-performance PCM tunes. Doctor Speed (www.doctorspeed.com) has information and pricing on many of the available modifications for the G6 (as well as other vehicles on that platform). It's a good place to start, and check out www.g6performance.com for future developments.
