How To Clean Your LS1 Firebird Engine Bay - Late Model Engine Bay Cleaning

Engine Brite features a pressure sensitive button that allows you to vary the force of the cleaner coming out. We found this was very handy when it came time to spray the dirtiest areas, as well as the more sensitive areas.

This has got to be the best part about Engine Brite. After you spray it, you just let it sit for 10-15 minutes. We took this time to clean the air filter out, apply the new filter oil, and get a drink.

After the time is up, all you have to do is lightly hose off the areas that you sprayed down. Make sure to steer clear of the intake system; even though there are towels in there to deter incoming water, you can never be too careful.

Next, we moved on to the hood. Most people overlook this area, but car show judges won't. There was a lot of grime underneath that had been smeared by previous multi-purpose cleaners, so it was apparent that there was some tough stuff built onto the surface.

We sprayed the area with a generous coating of Gunk's Purple Cleaner Degreaser and let it stand for roughly five minutes. This product also features a varying stream nozzle. We found that the best results came when we barely turned the twist nozzle, and we got a foaming action from the sprayer. This helped it stick to the hood better, with only minor dripping.

After wiping it down, there were some areas we didn't spray, and they can be seen in this picture, but after comparing to the before picture, the results should speak for themselves. This stuff works!

Once you have finished, it's suggested that you wipe the engine bay dry with a clean towel to soak up the extra water that likes to puddle, particularly the intake manifold, strut towers, and lower intake/radiator cover. We were pretty amazed that when we had finished, the towel was nearly as clean! The whole process took little effort, but provided a new look.

Now it's all done! This late-model engine bay has been cleaned by using safe products that won't damage any electronics, and by using a little know-how. This entire process was completed in less than an hour, and makes the underhood appearance rival any showroom. Now you don't need to be ashamed to pop your hood at the next car meet.
