Next, the old switch was gently pulled from the column, while guiding the wires.  With the collar removed, it's...  With the collar removed, it's now easy to see the path the wires from the directional switch take into the steering column.  The actual cam/horn contact...  The actual cam/horn contact was inspected for wear. A new one is offered through Ames Performance (www.amesperf.com) for approximately $27.  The contact on the left is...  The contact on the left is worn, as seen from the deterioration of the metal ring.  This is how the new and unworn...  This is how the new and unworn cam follower looks.  A good procedure is to pre-test...  A good procedure is to pre-test the cancel function with the directional switch in your hand. The switch is simply moved to a flashing position and the cam is inserted and turned, simulating the steering wheel being centered after a turn. The cam should evoke the follower and shut off the directional.  A problem with the '64 application...  A problem with the '64 application is that the newer directional switch (which is the only one currently offered) requires a second notch to be cut into the steering column. The proper place was located and scribed. This new switch, produced... This new switch, produced by M & H Electrical Fabrication, was sourced through Ames, and for our subject Pontiac cost $65.
