Since this L92/LS3 engine was destined for a Firebird, a new F-body LS1 oil pan was employed. With a new gasket on the pan, it's placed on the bottom of the block and 14 bolts are threaded into position. The oil-pan-to-block and front-cover (front cover to be installed later) bolts are torqued to 18 ft-lb, while the oil-pan-to-rear-cover bolts are set at 106 in-lb.

The L92/LS3 heads require a specific rocker pedestal (GM PN 12600936) due to the offset intake rocker arms (GM PN 12569167) that are used. Offset like the LS7, the L92 (1:7:1) rockers will not fit any other series of LS heads. After laying the rocker pedestal in place, a set of TSP 7.4-inch hardened 0.080 wall chromoly pushrods (PN 25-7400; retail $99.99) are slipped into position.

The offset intake rockers and a new set of LS1/LS2 exhaust rockers are positioned, Teflon paste is put on the ends of the intake rocker bolts, and all of the 8mm rocker arm bolts are torqued to 24 ft-lb. Note the TSP dual-spring kit (PN 199-SPKIT; retail $289.99), which includes premium-grade springs rated to 0.660-inch lift and come complete with hardened seats, viton seals, and titanium retainers. Once the valvetrain is complete, stock LS1 valve covers are installed and the hardware is torqued to 106 in-lb.

Although an LS1 or LS2 timing cover would bolt on, a Quick Time Performance Quick Cam two-piece timing cover is utilized in order to allow fast camshaft swaps in the dyno cell. The aircraft aluminum cover comes with a new OEM crank seal and is designed so that the crank dampener and pulley won't have to be removed in order to swap camshafts.

Our GM L76/L92 intake manifold assembly (GM PN 12590123; retail $595) included fuel rails, 39-lb/hr fuel injectors, and an LS2 90mm throttle body, but it has been discontinued. Although not offered as an assembly, GM recently released the LS3 intake manifold (GM PN 12602477; retail $228.95) and the throttle body, fuel rail, and injectors are all available. The manifold assembly is installed and torqued to spec.
