To get the baseline, Third-gear pulls up to 6,000 rpm are performed. According to Superchips: "Third gear is chosen because it produces a consistent, but not too quick, acceleration rate so the software can accurately read the run. Second gear would cause the engine to rev too quickly for the computer.
