According to DBA, slotting increases the bite of the pad. The 'micro-shaving' effect of the slots also serves to deglaze the pads. (This is why the edges of the slots on DBA 5000 Series rotors are not chamfered or 'radiused'.) It also tends to even out the wear across the brake-pad faces, increasing the effective contact area, which can extend rotor life. The aerospace-aluminum hat is held on by NAS lock nuts and replacement-rotor brake bands are available. View Related Article
