DCI Motorsports
Don Johnston at DCI Motorsports is no stranger to the Pontiac V-8. He's been in business since 1982 and has been the builder of choice for many Pontiac fans looking for a solid street/strip combination. In the past, Don developed the Tiger heads for traditional Pontiac V-8s and is currently developing reproduction Ram Air V heads.
The combination Don chose to share with us is intended for a mild daily driver-type vehicle that is geared more for street than strip. It's based on a production block and heads, yet offers plenty of power and room for more in the future. "I've been offering this pump-gas-friendly combination for about eight years; it's my mainstay," Johnston explained. "I've built about 150 of them. It represents about 80 percent of the engine building end of my business."
Johnston recommends using 3.55 gears and a 3,200-rpm stall converter. With a 3,500-pound car, he says it should run mid-11s.
