Pull the paddle assembly onto the shaft of the steering column using the same 7/8-inch nut. (Our factory assembly manual says we should torque to 30 ft-lb. When we did, we were surprisingly close to that 1/8-inch gap.) Use a washer under the nut to spread the load and pull it down evenly; then remove the washer and re-torque the assembly.
