Butler Performance
Butler Performance sent us this 2,000-plus-horsepower single-turbo Pontiac race engine combination, which is attractive from both cost and maintenance standpoints.
"The single-turbo combination is easier for racers to tune and package in an existing racecar than a twin-turbo," says David Butler of Butler Performance. "Even though it uses only one turbo, it will still make way more power than most chassis will be able to handle."
This combo is based on an IA II block, forged crankshaft, and a huge Turbonetics turbo. Additionally, the new high-port Edelbrock heads can be substituted for the standard Edelbrock Wide Ports for even more flow. Butler can also put together a twin-turbo version for roomier engine bays or if the customer likes the balanced appearance of the twin setup.
"We've sold a few of these engines recently," David reports. "Probably the most famous of these is currently in John Welter's '02 Trans Am. With a best trap speed of 209 mph in the quarter, you know it's making power."
