The rear-axle housing on some Norwood-built cars was left natural, while others received a very light coating of semigloss black paint. Along with the differential cover, this Firebird’s axle was clearly painted black. The hand-painted yellow “G” is some type of production code that may be the first letter of the “GY” axle code for 3.08 limited-slip axle or the “G” that denotes production at the Chevrolet Gear Division plant, which assembled F-body axles. The muffler is a stock-replacement Super-Duty-type from Waldron Exhaust. View Related Article
